Private Equity Firms Go Retail

Private equity firms are buying up retailers.  The attraction is that they are mature businesses that generate a steady stream of income.  Apollo Management and Claire's Stores announced a $3.1 billion deal.  Earlier deals by other firms include Dollar General for $6.9 billion, and, at the other end of the spectrum, Neiman Marcus at $4.9 billion.
