Key to success
Whenever a new lawyer asks me the key to being a successful practioner, one thing tops my list. Mark Herrmann lays it out very well here.
His last line is something that has always baffled me, because, as he notes, there's nothing to it. So why do so many people mess this up?

This baffles me as well. It takes almost no time to send a one sentence e-mail. I sent the link to my research assistants, as being responsive is one of the very first things I try to teach them. If they follow Mark's (and my) advice, they will move one big step closer to being effective practitioners when they graduate.
