Bored? Looking for a new and challenging job? Roy Greenslade notes that there's a position open for someone willing to take on an important challenge--that of head of the newly formed Independent Press Standards Organisation (IPSO). Check out the ad in the Guardian, which hasn't actually signed on to the IPSO charter.
What are the qualifications? Well, minimally:
The Chair will be one of IPSO’s seven Independent Directors, coming from outside the industry. You will be a proven leader with experience in a complex and high-profile environment. You will be able to demonstrate independence, sound judgement and resilience, as well as the ability to work and communicate effectively in a public and high profile environment. Finally, you will be committed to protecting the rights of the public whilst maintaining freedom of expression.
The Appointment Panel will also be looking to appoint 6 Independent Directors and 5 Industry Directors to its Board; those roles will be advertised shortly, with the Chair Designate joining the Panel for the final selection of the Directors.
The Chair of IPSO may not have any connection with the newspaper or magazine publishing industry. S/he also may not be a serving member of the House of Commons, the United Kingdom Government, the Scottish Parliament, the Scottish Government, the Welsh Assembly, the Welsh Government, the Northern Ireland Assembly or the Northern Ireland Executive.
For more details, including a full information pack, please contact Saxton Bampfylde Ltd, the Appointment Panel’s employment agency advisor, quoting reference BAIPA, email BAIPA@saxbam.com or call 020 7227 0890 during office hours.
