News Corp May Split Into News and Entertainment Companies
Rupert Murdoch is apparently thinking about breaking up his News International Corporation into two different companies. According to a number of media reports, the two new companies would be made up of a publshing company and an entertainment company. Both would still be controlled by Mr. Murdoch and his family. News Corp and its papers have been the focus of the UK's Leveson Inquiry phone hacking investigation over the past months. The Atlantic's Derek Thompson spectulates that the investigation isn't really the reason for a potential split. What may be propelling a reorganization, if it comes about, is falling revenue.
