The Lure of the Foreign (Edition)

The New York Times covers the impatience of U.S. readers to get hold of British (first) editions of popular mysteries when the U.S. edition is not yet available. Booksellers offer the convenience of picking the book up locally, but one can order the book online, as article author Motoko Rich and the booksellers she interviews point out. The Stieg Larsson novel mentioned in the article is now available from Amazon UK for less than 8 pounds (7.97). I checked the postage and packing charges; they came out to a little more than 7 pounds for shipping to my home state. The total cost for the item with shipping from Amazon to my door today would be about fifteen pounds, or $24.50. Here's a handy site for currency conversion.
