Calling George Orwell
Under the Regulation of Investigatory Powers Act (RIGA) the UK government will begin collecting information on every website search, telephone call, and email message, despite the lack of support from the public and from many of the government's own advisors. Such data collection will not require prior permission from a judge. The British newspaper the Telegraph notes that the government can keep such information for a year.
