BBC News Program May Drop "Reaction" Shots, Other Editing

The BBC program Newsnight will poll its viewers to see if they think it should end the practice of "staging" reporter reaction shots and other editing practices after another British news program, Channel Five news, announced that it would do so. Newsnight's editor Peter Barron called the practices somewhat outdated; Channel Five news' editor's David Kermode referred to them as "hackneyed tricks." Read more here in a Media Guardian story. Some observers see the Channel Five ban as an attempt to restore viewer faith in British tv, faith that has been shaken after a series of scandals over documentary and call-in shows.
