Valparaiso has awarded Susan Stuart the Swygert Teaching Fellowship, a two-year appointment established to "reward individual faculty members for achieving and demonstrating the highest standards in teaching and in scholarship and the advancement of knowledge, and to encourage the attainment of the highest standards in teaching and in scholarship and the advancement of knowledge by present and future members of the faculty of the School of Law.” Susan is the first legal writing professor to win this award.
Here is an excerpt from her dean's comments about why Susan is so deserving of this award:
"Professor Stuart displays a deep commitment to the craft of teaching and a deep appreciation for law teaching as the development of a system of knowledge, skills, and values in students. She has had great success and influence in the important and difficult to teach subject of legal writing. She is also a gifted teacher of doctrinal subjects and has educated our students in a wide range of fields, in large classes and small. She has been generous with her time and talents in serving students in other ways, including developing an Academic Success Program and teaching and lecturing throughout the University."
