I am a 3L studying abroad in Dublin right now and I've had several of the same experiences with street and bus signs here--in Irish! (In Dublin, most public signs are each written both in Irish and English, with the Irish text directly above the English text.) In fact, I have quite a few photos of street signs directly across from each other with different spellings and words. And from talking with locals, these differences don't seem to be on purpose.
