We probably have dealt with our own writer’s block and also have tried to help our students overcome it. What about grader’s block? I am writing this posting a few weeks ahead of time (I’ll be in Paris in mid January) and am attempting to overcome my own grader’s block. Every winter and spring, I find ways to avoid grading.
Do the methods for conquering writer’s block work for conquering grader’s block? Probably the best common method is just to buckle down and start the task, at least for a short while. For grading, I find that if I get some done, I work my way into the “grading zone” and then zip along at a goodly rate of speed. If you’re not through grading by now, you had better get moving!
