A prominent Edmonton criminal lawyer is suspended from practising law for one year after being convicted of assault.
The Law Society of Alberta issued a suspension notice Tuesday, explaining the Court of Queen’s Bench imposed the order on Renu Prithipaul, who also goes by Ravi.
Prithipaul, a past president of the Criminal Trial Lawyers’ Association, pleaded guilty Oct. 2 to three counts of assault.
He was sentenced Oct. 6 with a $200 victim fine surcharge and a 10-year firearm probation. He will spend one year under house arrest.
The custodian for Prithipaul’s practice is lawyer Rod Gregory.
There is a publication ban on the identity of underage victims and the identity of a complainant or witness.
