Opening: Law Library Director, Villanova University School of Law

Villanova University School of Law, a Catholic and Augustinian institution, seeks an experienced and innovative academic leader to serve as Director of its Law Library. The Law Library occupies approximately 50,000 square feet in the Law School’s new state-of-the-art building, boasts a collection of approximately 350,000 print volumes and one million microforms, and employs a staff of ten professional librarians and seven paraprofessionals. The Law Library serves 48 full-time faculty members and approximately 750 law students.

Villanova Law School is passionate about educating excellent lawyers for practice in the 21st century. We are looking for a creative and energetic law library leader who will help us envision the law library services necessary to that educational enterprise. The Director of the Law Library manages all aspects of the operation of the library including collection development and management, oversight of library services to faculty, students, and other members of the Law School community, personnel management and supervision, implementation and maintenance of library technology, and library budget development and control. The Director also manages the physical space of the Law Library to preserve and enhance its central role in the life of the Villanova Law School.

In addition to the administrative position of Law Library Director, it is anticipated that the successful candidate, who will be a full-time faculty member, will engage in law school teaching and scholarship. The Director of the Law Library will be a tenure-track or tenured member of the faculty.

Compensation: The salary and benefits will be nationally competitive and commensurate with qualifications and experience.

Requirements: Applicants must hold both a JD from an accredited ABA-accredited law school and an MLS or equivalent degree from an ALA-accredited library or information science program. The successful candidate must (1) have at least five years of experience in academic law library administration; (2) be committed to providing outstanding service to faculty, students, and other members of the Law School community; (3) possess excellent administrative, financial, organizational and collaborative skills; and (4) have a proven record of strong leadership.
