Should a University Librarian Have Tenure?
Some at Brandeis University don't think so. More here. [MG]April 16, 2010 in News | Permalink

This is, unfortunately, a move that we see happening in many venues. Repeated budget cuts in the library in favor of building projects, external affair events, etc., show a dramatic indication of who is considered important at schools all over the country. Access to faculty to try to lobby for their resources (for some reason, the people advocating a lesser position for libraries seem to think the collection is our own personal pet project and not for the benefit of the community it serves) is difficult enough when you are part of the faculty. This guy who tried to slide the director off tenure-track seems completely slimy - I am glad I do not have to work with such a slime ball. Kudos to the faculty member who stood up for the directors' rights and for his own.
