Reference and Instruction Librarian, Texas Tech University Law Library

The Reference and Instruction Librarian provides instruction, reference, and research services to students, faculty, staff, and other users of the Texas Tech University Law Library.
 
Summary: Texas Tech University Law Library seeks applicants for a Reference and Instruction Librarian. The position is a full-time, calendar year, tenure-track law library faculty position. The Reference and Instruction Librarian works as part of a reference, instruction, and research support team that interacts with the Law School and University communities as well as serves legal and general public library users. The Reference and Instruction Librarian should be proficient in research strategies and resources. Applicant should be familiar with new information technologies as they apply to instruction and communication. The applicant should maintain an awareness of developments in law librarianship and legal education. The Reference and Instruction Librarian participates actively in developing and implementing the Law Library’s policies, programs, and services to its community of users.
 
Responsibilities: Provides reference and research services as part of a team, including some evenings and weekends; Develops and coordinates instructional and outreach programs for legal and library communities and the general public; Teaches online and print legal resources to students in small group and one-on-one sessions; Prepares online tutorials; Develops Law Library brochures and bibliographies for print and online distribution; Participates in collection development and selection; Serves on Law Library, Law School, and other committees; Depending on qualifications and experience, may manage the Certificate of Excellence in Legal Research program and may serve as the Law Library’s liaison to the Legal Practice (legal research and writing) program.
 
Required Qualifications: Applicant must possess a JD and MLS from ABA/ALA accredited schools; be service-oriented, innovative, and flexible; be willing to work in a fast-paced atmosphere with multiple projects and diverse users; exhibit strong oral and written communication skills; have experience working in a professional, team-based environment.
 
Preferred Qualifications: Applicant may substitute job-related education for work experience on a year-for-year basis; should possess substantial knowledge of traditional legal bibliography and legal electronic resources; should have experience in teaching, performing legal reference services, and managing electronic resources; and should have professional experience in academia.
 
Salary: Salary competitive and commensurate with experience and qualifications.
