iAWFUL's Updated Top Ten List of Worst Proposed Internet Laws
NetChoice released its first iAWFUL list of 2010 last week. [Press Release]. The Internet Advocates’ Watchlist for Ugly Laws (iAWFUL) lists the worst proposed Internet laws in America. Here's the current Top 10:
- Expanding rulemaking powers of the Federal Trade Commission.
- Forcing Advertisers to become Tax Collectors (California, Colorado, Illinois, Maryland, Vermont, and Virginia)
- Hotel Taxes on Online Travel Companies
- Expanding Internet Sales taxation, based on inflated expectations and inadequate simplifications
- Restricting Free Trial Offers (Maine and Oregon)
- New Taxes on Digital Downloads (Colorado, Indiana, Wyoming, and Vermont)
- New Jersey Social Networking Bill
- Security Breach Notice Bills (Illinois and Mississippi)
- Maine Predatory Marketing Law
- Right of Publicity Bills (Hawaii, Indiana, Massachusetts and New York)
