Judge Reduces Damages in Thomas-Rasset File Sharing Case

In a preview of what might come in the Joel Tenenbaum case, the Judge in the Jammie Thomas-Rasset case, the only other file sharing case to go to trial, was shocked, shocked, he said, over the damages awarded by the jury.  He reduced the damages for sharing 24 songs from $1.92 million to $54,000.  The RIAA will have to accept the damage amount or face a new trial.  Or they could ultimately appeal, I suppose.  $54,000 for 24 songs still may not cut it with digital native advocates.  Wired has the story.  [MG]
