Sage Journals Online for FREE!

During the month of October 2009, Sage Journals Online is going OA!  They are offering a free "global trial" to their database which encompasses more than 500 journals and covers diverse disciplines in the humanities, arts & sciences, and sociology.  It includes categories relevant to law libraries such as information science, education, and management and organizational studies.  The full list and registration form can be found at this link:  https://online.sagepub.com/cgi/register?registration=FTOct2009-1

The registration process asks for the usual data points, but is otherwise innocuous. More importantly, it takes about 30 seconds.

Coverage in the "global trial" begins in 1999 and includes current issues of the Sage online collection. You have access to a full suite of features including advanced searching, favorite journal links, and search history.  While Sage is not strongly represented in the field of law specifically, many of these journals would be of interest to faculty and/or librarians doing research in cross discplinary areas.

This is a very nice overture though I am unclear about the motivation.  My cynical side wants to focus on the fact that it is a means of advertising.  My more optimistic side wants to focus on what a great gesture this is to the library community and the public at large.  Regardless, this would be a good month to do some of that cross disciplinary research!

Thanks Sage! (VS)
