The Texas Tech Law School is located on one of the largest campuses in the United States. The law school, while relatively new (opened in 1967, ABA approved in 1970), is dynamic and growing, with Centers of Excellence in Military Law, Biodefense Law and Water Law; and, Clinic Programs in Civil Practice, Criminal Justice, Tax, and Advanced Dispute Resolution. The law school recently added a large expansion in April 2008, that includes a generous endowment for advanced technology. The 28 member library and technology staff has doubled in size during the last 7 years. Growth and opportunity abound here.

Candidates will be required to have a Master's degree in library/information science from an accredited program. Knowledge of traditional legal bibliography as well as electronic legal information resources. Demonstrated knowledge of file formats, media/data migration, metadata, database management, and digitization techniques. Experience in a library's cataloging area with substantial knowledge of cataloging and classification policies, practice and tools such as OCLC and Innovative's Millennium.
Preferred qualifications would include an ABA accredited JD degree, or international equivalent. Knowledge of electronic and traditional cataloging standards and emerging cataloging standards, such as Functional Requirements for Bibliographic Records. Experience with relevant thesauri and one or more metadata schemas or tools. The skill of coordinating projects with minimal guidance. Showing initiative and being self-motivated, while having a strong customer service orientation, is of the highest importance.

The position is a full-time, 12 month, tenure-track position available June 1, 2008. Initial appointment is for one year at the rank of Librarian; reappointment and tenure decisions are based on librarianship (e.g., professional performance), scholarship, and service.
