Children Worshipping George Bush Cardboard Cutout at a Jesus Camp
Idolatry, Christrian Right style.
UPDATE: Some commenters have been critical of my use of the word "worship" in the title of this post, arguing that the children are praying for GWB. I don't think they need a cardboard cutout to do that. How about hero worshipping? Part of this clip comes from a documentary called Jesus Camp; view the entire film and decide for yourself. Thanks to a reader for calling the documentary to my attention. [JH]

This is terrrible. Normal people scorn islam fundamentalists? I believe this is the same, and equally, if not more dangerous (US has more firepower and brains than uneducated morons that ride camels and only have the guns thy use at the weddings to shoot in the air).

Hello to all,my fellow americans.
I have seen this title by accident and I could not
belive my eyes.I am very attached to USA (grown up with connection to American culture) so with
regret I must say you are going in wrong direction.I hope you will rise again and move away
from stupidity,you deserve better.
P.S.-I am christian and that old women from "catolic" school is insulted the God (I suppose she do not that but stupid can not theach
others,especially the youth).
All the best

This must be the weekend to watch Jesus Camp. I watched and I slightly disagree with the characterization of the kids worshiping the cardboard cut out. I must admit though that was my initial thought. I just thought that it was silly and ridiculous. You don't need an image to effectively and fervently pray for someone. I never heard them pray for the poor, sick or the ones who are suffering -- or maybe they just couldn't find a cardboard cut out to represent those that Jesus actually told us to look after and care for.

They are praying. Don't lose the trust of your readers by manipulating the title of the post to get more readers. The tabloids do that.

I agree about the music — I was on a big "Tubular Bells" trip today. Surreal.

Ura Moron, you sound pretty idiotic yourself... does that mean you are a born-again christian?

You have to grow more soldiers to replace all of the ones that die. Sickening.

I'm all for accuracy - for those who wish to play semantics and think they AREN'T worshipping him consider this:
wor·ship (wûr'shĭp)
n.
1. The reverent love and devotion accorded a deity, an idol, or a sacred object.
2. The ceremonies, prayers, or other religious forms by which this love is
expressed.
3. Ardent devotion; adoration.
v., -shiped or -shipped, -ship·ing or -ship·ping, -ships or -ships.
v.tr.
1. To honor and love as a deity.
2. To regard with ardent or adoring esteem or devotion. See synonyms at revere1.
v.intr.
1. To participate in religious rites of worship.
2. To perform an act of worship.
They might be praying for him and blessing him but any fool can see that they are worshipping him too.

Children Worshiping George Bush Cardboard Cutout at a Jesus Camp.... This is the title you use? What a moron you are. Have you actually watched the movie? I have. I've watched the movie and the it again with the comments by the film makers. It is a very scary and interesting film. This type of moronic and out of context title and clip do the subjects of the film and the film makers a great disservice. Mad, I hope you are a student and not a Law Professor. There is a lot to be concerned about that is captured extremely well in this movie. Praying for the President is not it.

NY3's point is a very important one. Listen to what's being said: they're blessing him and doing warfare over him. This is creepy and weird, but in different ways than the original poster seems to think.
"Doing warfare" in particular is wrapped up in the Charismatic view of the world as filled with demons and angels battling 24/7 in a parallel spiritual world that intersects with ours. Prayers give strength to angels and help make God's plans happen (ignoring the curious belief in God's omnipotence that goes along with it). The implication is that President Bush is fighting for God, and that it's our job to strengthen the angels that are battling around him.
This is both subtler and more dangerous than a group of wackos who think Bush is God.

Jesus stood for peace and tolerance. Yet here they are worshipping a man whose actions have led to the deaths of hundreds of thousands of innocent civilians.
Jesus said "love your enemy" and "turn the other cheek". Whereas they think he said "blast civilians to death in the name of American supremacy".
We have no way of connecting with these people. They are sad, sad souls, lost in their bigotry and ignorance. If Jesus came to Earth right now and tried to explain his message of love and non violence to them, they would sneer at him.
They haven't the first idea of what Christianity is about. Not a clue. They are no more Christian than Saddam Hussein or Osama bin Laden. God save America.

looks like the poor suckers live in another world! blissfully unaware of whats going on around the world and what the world thinks of george w bush.

Let's be accurate: They aren't praying to him or worshiping him, they're praying for him. The video makes it very clear that they think they are commanding him to follow the laws of God by saying things like "Mr. President, this is one nation under God!"

I thought the Bible was pretty clear about how long you spend in Hell for worshipping idols. These clowns better hope they're wrong about the existence of the Biblical God, or stock up on their asbestos Underoos.

This is completely sick. A real indictment of the shoddy and appalling condition of American society today.
