Quote It! Gandhi on Patron Service

A customer library patron is the most important visitor on our premises.

He is not dependent on us. We are dependent on him.

He is not an interruption in our work - he is the purpose of it.

We are not doing him a favour by serving him. He is doing us a favour by giving us the opportunity to serve him.

- Mahatma Gandhi

Editor's Note: OK, so I edited the quote. [JH]

I feel this quote is very true. I am a MLS student, and I also work in a public library. So many times I see how annoyed some of my co-workers get with patrons. However I am starting to understand that if they do not enter the library, our value depletes; or our services are no longer needed. Without patrons, I would not ave a job, or a future career. Their tax dollars are also keeping libraries across the country flowing smoothly. To them I am very thankful!
