Opening: Multimedia/Public Services Librarian (St. Thomas Law, FL)
The Law Library of St. Thomas University (Miami Gardens, FL), is seeking a Multimedia/Public Services Librarian to start July 1, 2006. The St. Thomas Law Library has a collection of over 300,000 volumes and volume equivalents, including a large collection of microforms as well as a number of online full-text sources; the law library provides all classroom technology assistance for the law school. St. Thomas is centrally located in the Miami/Ft. Lauderdale area and enjoys the climate and style of living associated with South Florida, while actively engaging its students in the study of law and the legal community of the Broward and Miami-Dade Counties. RESPONSIBILITIES:
The position reports to the Law Library Director. The successful candidate will manage all aspects of the law library’s scheduling and provision of classroom multimedia as well as the same for some events outside the law school (such as bar events in which the law school is involved). This position includes the supervision of three full-time employees and several part-time student employees. In addition, this person will work as part of the reference team and provide some in-person reference services, as well as the other duties typically associated with a public services position.
QUALIFICATIONS: REQUIRED: MLS (or equivalent) from an ALA accredited institution; knowledge of audiovisual equipment including LCD projectors, digital cameras or the ability to learn about this technology; the ability to work effectively and collaboratively with others; excellent oral and written communication skills; excellent service orientation.
PREFERRED: Minimum of two years of supervisory experience, preferably in an academic setting, preferred. Candidates with a JD preferred over MLS only candidates. JD not required, however.
SALARY AND BENEFITS: Salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience but in the high 40’s or low to middle 50’s depending on experience. St. Thomas University offers a competitive benefits package. This is an administrative staff position.
