Opening: Digital Services Librarian, Rutgers

The Rutgers University Library for the Center for Law and Justice, in Newark, NJ, is seeking a Digital Services Librarian . The Library for the Center for Law and Justice is a research library with a collection of over 500,000 volumes and volume-equivalents, and a staff of 25, including 10 professional librarians. The Library serves the faculty and students of both the School of Law and the School of Criminal Justice, and is also used by the practicing bar and the general public.

Responsibilities: The Digital Services Librarian is responsible for all of the library's electronic resources. This librarian plans and implements policies and procedures for user access to library materials in electronic form; provides training for staff and patrons on electronic resources and applications; designs and programs the library website, electronic reserves, and digital library databases, including multimedia components; and facilitates the maintenance of the school's legal scholarship repositories. The Digital Services Librarian coordinates the selection and management of library systems applications; develops procedures for automation of routine library tasks; implements upgrades, and provides preventive and corrective maintenance for the library's integrated automated system, and analyzes, recommends, and implements software or services that enhance or operate together with that system. The incumbent will serve on the school's technology-related committees, and perform other professional duties as needed. This position reports to the Director of the Library.

Requirements: M.L.S. and three years of relevant experience are required.

The successful candidate will have a working knowledge of database applications, markup languages, programming and scripting languages, multimedia software, and UNIX; excellent written, oral and interpersonal skills; the ability to work with a variety of people; and a strong service ethic. Familiarity with legal materials and with Innovative Interfaces Inc. Millennium system will be helpful.

Conditions of Employment: This is a full-time, calendar year, tenure-track position. The initial appointment is for one year.
