Winning Photo in AALL Contest
The American Association of Law Libraries has announced the winning photographs in the "Day in the Life of the Law Library Community" Contest. The photos were taken by AALL members during National Library Week 2005 (April 10-16). Photos depict law librarians working, meeting, teaching, and doing all that law librarians do in a given day or week.
The overall winner, below, is "Shelving in Silhouette" from King County Law Library.

Editor's Note: Librarians shelving in stiletto heels is not something that happens on "any given day or week" or month or year in my law library.

Wow. That is a really really amazing picture. Congrats on the photographer for capturing that moment.

That librarian is HOT! I'm glad someone finally captured what goes on in a law library all day (enough with those boring shots portraying librarians as helpful, intelligent, future-conscious information specialists)! I definitely train my staff here to wear the most revealing clothes and highest heels in order to best serve our patrons. As a result, our F. Supp. section always has a noontime audience, YAH! When we aren't writhing in the aisles, we are taking pictures of each other writhing in the aisles. Good job, AALL voters!

I am disappointed that the overall winning picture continues the outdated image of librarian as "keeper of the books." While this picture may show that librarians can be sexy (stiletto heels instead of gray haired bun and reading glasses on the end of one's nose), I think a better winning picture might have been one of the teacher/trainer pictures or the "information manager" pictures showing the integration of online with books. Maybe next year's contest, in honor of AALL's centennial can be "The Image of Librarianship for the Next Century."
