Opening: Law Library Director

Law Library Director, School of Law Library, John F. Kennedy University, Pleasant Hill campus, full-time position, 40 hours per week. The salary range for this exempt grade 10 position is $62,700 - $78,400 and includes vacation, sick leave and a flexible benefit plan offering medical, dental, 401(k) retirement eligibility, long term disability insurance, dependent care, voluntary life and/or long term care insurance and tuition waiver benefits.

The Law Library supports the Law School curriculum, standards and follows California State Bar Standards for the Accreditation of Law Schools in California. It provides legal resources and services to students, faculty, administration and the local legal community and the public. The library's collection of over 30,000 volumes is part of the university's 80,000 volume collection that supports degree programs in law, psychology, holistic studies, education and liberal arts, management and the new paralegal program.

The Law Library Director requirements include a JD and experience in an academic law library with increased responsibility. An MLIS or MIS degree is strongly preferred.  Excellent interpersonal, communication and problem solving skills are necessary and supervisory experience will be considered a plus. Computer proficiency with Microsoft Office, Word, Excel, Access; working knowledge of on-line legal database systems, Westlaw and Lexis; and knowledge of library catalog, budgeting and management systems are also requirements for this position. Familiarity with the State Bar and WASC standards as well as knowledge of California and federal Legal Systems is preferred.

The responsibilities of the Law Library Director include managing the department, including setting policy and planning; developing and managing the budget; hiring, scheduling, supervising and evaluating staff; developing the collection and online services; overseeing and providing reference and research services to the university and outside communities; marketing library services and fund raising for the department; teach/instruct legal research for classes and individuals; and coordinating objectives with the Law School and other university departments.
