The University of Connecticut School of Law is seeking candidates for the position of Head of References Services.  The School of Law is located in the west end of the city of Hartford.  The library building was completed in 1996 and was designed and constructed to match the collegiate gothic architecture of the other buildings on the campus.  The print collection contains over 300,000 volumes and is complemented by an impressive array of online resources and microform holdings.  The insurance law collection is among the most comprehensive in the country.  The University of Connecticut Law Library is a full member of the New England Law Library Consortium, an organization that increases the local opportunities for exciting new ventures, collaborative purchases, resource sharing, and professional development.  The southern New England region offers ample opportunities for diverse recreation and cultural activities.

Responsibilities:
The available position is primarily responsible for providing reference and educational services to the Law School faculty, students and members of the public and legal community, as well as providing leadership and supervision for all reference providers.  The Head of Reference Services is responsible for supervising and participating in print and online legal research instruction.  The incumbent is a member of the collection development and systems advisory groups.  The Head of Reference Services reports to the Associate Law Librarian for Library Services and will directly supervise four reference librarians (3.5 FTE).  Some evening and weekend hours are required.

Required Qualifications:
A J.D. and an M.L.S. are required, along with a minimum of three years of related employment experience.  This position will directly supervise other lawyer librarians and non-lawyer librarians who have significant professional experience.

Preferred Qualifications:
Teaching experience in legal research and supervisory experience.

Compensation:
Annual salary: low to mid 50s, DOE.  This position is represented by the University of Connecticut Professional Employees Association.  A comprehensive benefits plan is offered to all members.
