Robinson Says Entertainment Industry May Be Violating Title VII
Russell Robinson, UCLA, has conducted an entertainment industry casting
study -- in conjunction with the UCLA Chicano Studies Research
Center -- which finds that Latino, black, Asian American and Native
American actors have few acting opportunities available to them.
Professor Robinson notes that these actors may have grounds for legal
recourse under Title VII. The problem is not casting for roles designed for a specific sex or race, he concludes, but limiting casting calls by sex or race when a particular sex or race is not important to the story line.
