Homeowners and Day Laborers

2005826daylaborers1606723Here is an interesting story from CNN concerning how the number one employer of day laborers in this country is not the construction industry or any other industry, but in fact homeowners.

According to the article:

Forty-nine percent of day labor employers are homeowners, according to 2,660 laborers interviewed for the study. Contractors were second, at 43 percent. The study also found that three quarters of day laborers were illegal immigrants and most were from Latin America.

Interesting statistics to think about on this date of "A Day Without Immigrants" rallies throughout the country.

Another indication of how important immigrant labor, both legal and illegal, is to our national economy and why something well short of mass deportations needs to be done to address the situation.
