Day of International Criminal Justice
Last year, the Assembly of States Parties to the International Criminal Court declared July 17 to be the Day of International Criminal Justice. The day marks the anniversary of the adoption of the Rome Statute of the ICC. 114 parties currently belong to the Rome Statute and two more will join later this summer - Grenada and Tunisia. UN officials and ICC justices have issued statements in honor of the day that speak of the court's role in ensuring justice, bringing hope and deterring crime.
