ITLOS: We Have No Jurisdiction to Try Pirates
The International Tribunal for the Law of the Sea issued a press release to correct erroneous press reports that it was prepared to try pirates. It is not. ITLOS deals mainly with disputes between States Parties to the United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea. ITLOS is not a criminal court and has no competence to try pirates.
