José Andrés is a well-known chef with restaurants around the U.S. Born in Spain, Andrés has been a "pioneer of Spanish tapas in the United States."

He is also an American citizen, having naturalized in 2013.

Andrés is our immigrant of the day because of his work in hurricane-ravaged Puerto Rico.

Hurricane Maria hit Puerto Rico on September 20. Andrés arrived on September 25, serving food through his World Central Kitchen to patients and workers at Puerto Rico’s Hospital of Carolina as well as residents of an elder care facility. (Mmm, that paella looks good.)

You can follow the work of Andrés and his organization on twitter: @chefjoseandres, @WCKitchen, and #ChefsForPuertoRico.
