The Most Popular Languages Across America That ARE NOT English or Spanish

WLxRw6A
Mental Floss passes along, via Ben Blatt of Slate, a chart showing the most popular languages aside from English or Spanish for each state in the union. Some of the languages will make sense to readers right away, like French in Louisiana (specifically, in and around New Orleans). Or the Navajo language in the Southwest. But others will come as a surprise, like German in Montana.

UPDATE (May 20):  For critical commentary on this map by Karthick Ramakrishnan (UC Riverside) , click here.

These statistics are so random. I don't know a lot of people in Utah that speak German. I guess immigration lawyers could have some insight into this.
