From Southeast Asian Resource Action Center:
As a part of APA Heritage Month, SEARAC is partnering with APALA and the AFL-CIO to host a panel titled “Shattering the Model Minority Myth: Asian Americans & Pacific Islanders and Mass Incarceration.” The panel will take place on Tuesday, May 20, 2014 from 12pm-2pm in the Gompers Room of the AFL-CIO Headquarters in Washington, DC. Lunch will be provided.
We hope you will join us during this panel as we work to dispel the myth of the “model minority” to AAPI allies and educate them on the challenges AAPIs face in the criminal justice system. Our goal is to look at the intersection between mass incarceration and mass deportation, and to explore the role the labor movement can and should play in bridging that intersection.
Panelists include Eddy Zheng, Project Director at the Community Youth Center of San Francisco. Eddy is one of the most visible Asian American leaders and has dedicated his life to preventing youth violence and delinquency. He will be joined by Robert Rooks, Organizing Director of the Californians for Safety and Justice, and SEARAC Executive Director Quyen Dinh.
Join us as we continue our fight to raise diverse AAPI voices!
