Immigrant Makes U.S.A. Victorious in Boston Marathon

Last year, a pair of immigrants made the Boston Marathon a tragic worldwide news event.  This year, an immigrant turned American made for inspirational news at the nation's most well-known marathon.

Meb Keflezighi, a naturalized U.S. citizen, outran an elite field of men in the Boston Marathon today -- Patriots' Day in Massachusetts, the first American to win the race since 1983.  One of 10 children, he fled to Italy from Eritrea with his mother and his siblings while his father worked cleaning jobs to support the family while arranging for them to immigrate to San Diego. He was a high school champion who went on to star at UCLA, where he won multiple NCAA championships.
