From the Immigrant Youth Coalition (IYC)
Baldwin Park Violated the TRUST Act and as a result Sergio will be deported Monday and separatedfrom his 5 year old son Jonathan.
Here’s the story,
On Friday, March 7th, Sergio Rosales Flores (A# 098-797-172) was pulled over and arrested on Baldwin Park Blvd. around 12 PM in the city of Baldwin Park, he was asked to show proof of identification but Sergio did not have a driver’s license or any other form of identification, he was arrested by the police officer and taken to the Baldwin Park Police Station.
Baldwin Park police officers have a reputation for treating undocumented community very poorly and Sergio’s experience was no different. Upon arriving to the police station, Sergio was not allowed to speak or ask for anything to drink. He was forced to drink water out of the sink in the small jail cell and was not allowed to walk around or stretch. When he would ask for the time and date, the officers would reply with remarks saying ICE was coming for him and that he did not have much time left.
Sergio was given an ICE hold and the Baldwin Park police department honored the ICE hold, which is a violation of the TRUST Act. That means he was falsely imprisoned by the police department! He is now being held in the Adelanto Detention Center.
The SGV Immigrant Youth Coalition visited him yesterday and here is what he told us.
“I miss my son so much, I wish I could see him but I don’t want him to see me in and orange jumpsuit. I don’t want him to have the memory of me being locked up. No human being deserves to be locked up like an animal, you have no privacy and no respect here. I appreciate all the help, it gives me hope.”
