AALS Immigration Section Panel on Family and Immigration

The AALS Immigration Section held a joint program with the Family and Juvenile Law Section yesterday entitled, "Families and Immigration."

Co-moderators Anne Laquer Estin of the University of Iowa College of Law and David B. Thronson of Michigan State University College of Law moderated a robust panel comprised of the following speakers and their presentations:

Kerry Abrams, University of Virginia School of Law, who presented, "Immigration's Family Values," which is forthcoming in the Virginia Law Review and co-written with Kent Piacenti.

Jennifer Chacón, UC Irvine School of Law, who presented, "School to Deportation."

Kristin A. Collins, Boston University School of Law (currently visiting at Yale Law School), who presented, "Illegitimate Half-Castes," which is forthcoming in the Yale Law Journal.

Bijal Shah, NYU School of Law, who presented, "LGBT Identity in Immigration," which is forthcoming in the Columbia Human Rights Law Review.

Sounds like a great panel with great papers!

So many young immigrants and their families will flock to Washington this week to push for an immigration bill that values immigrant families over drones and fences on the border which is good news and we must stand for our rights.
