A Facebook page announces Young Conservatives of Texas will be having a "Catch an Illegal Immigrant" event this Wednesday.

Here is the "game":   There will be several people walking around the University of Texas campus with the label "illegal immigrant" on their clothing. "Any UT student who catches one of these `illegal immigrants' and brings them back to our table will receive a $25 gift card. The purpose of this event is to spark a campus-wide discussion about the issue of illegal immigration, and how it affects our everyday lives."

On a positive note, the event has generated controversy,  with the UT President Bill Powers and Attorney General (and gubernatorial candidate) Greg Abbott both suggesting that the students find a better way of encouraging discussion of immigration.

Sound fun?  Likely to produce fruitful discussion on a pressing public issue?

UPDATE (11/19): After much negative media coverage, which even attracted the attention of the New York Times, the Young Conservatives of Texas announced the cancellation of the "Catch an Illegal Immigrant" event.
