"We Don't Speak Mexican Here"

ABC NEWS has a thoughtful story about the intertwined nature of racism, anti-immigrant sentiment, and language in "We Don't Speak Mexican Here."  The story airs on tonight's national ABC news.  Thanks to Cappy White for the tip.

This is not a real news story. It is an ABC "experiment" designed to find out what bystanders do after watching a deli clerk's faux "racist" exchange with "day laborers" (code word for illegal aliens). It does not look like a very scientific experiment. This is ABC News? I am surprised and disappointed that such an unprofessionally prepared statistical survey and biased storyline would be described as "thoughtful" by an "immigration professors" blog.

Horace, all that the fake day laborers did was speak Spanish.

Yet you're going on about "illegal aliens."

Do you really assume such strong negatives about people's status based on what language they speak? You don't see how that's evidence of ethnic bigotry?
