Change.org Voting
Dear Friends,
Voting resumes today on the final selection of ideas for change to be presented to the incoming Obama administration. Please go to change.org to see the process and the list of immigration issues to chose from. Last week, I posted some information on the DREAM Act proposal, and here's one on refugee issues.

Dear ImmigrationProf Blog writers,
I work with a small non-profit organization called Asylum Access which provides legal aid to refugees in Asia, Africa and Latin America. I am writing to urge you to consider using your blog space to support a proposal that we have made to revitalize the US refugee program as part of the Ideas for Change program on Change.org.
We are proposing that President Obama re-open America's doors to refugees, and make this a high profile part of American foreign policy. You can read the full proposal here.
This is a rare chance to gain some visibility and mobilize support online for refugees in a way that does not happen enough in American politics. But to get anywhere, we'll need more and more bloggers to take up the idea.
Our proposal was just one of 87 our of 7773 to be selected out of the first round. Nearly 290,000 votes were cast, and more may be cast now in the final round. Final voting ends on January 15th. On January 16th, Change.org will co-host an event at the National Press Club in Washington, DC to announce the top 10 rated ideas and our plans for supporting the formation of a national advocacy campaign behind each idea.
Thanks for considering this.
With best regards,
Mike Kagan

Dear Mike:
America's doors are already open to refugees. Please take your advocacy efforts to some other country.

Dear Mike:
This is a great cause. While America's doors are open to refugees, it has been severely reduced to a crack. We need to bring the struggles and needs of refugees to the forefront of issues to tackle by the Obama administration so that we can increase the quota to admit more refugees for resettlement as we have in the past.
Thank you for your organization's work to advocate on the part of global refugees.

Why do we "need" more refugees? No one's calling for a larger U.S. population, and certainly not a larger population of refugees.
