287(g) program yields 68,000 arrests in two years

Since the program began in 2006, state law enforcement agencies with 287(g) agreements in 18 states, have made more than 68,000 arrests for immigration-related violations, says Carl Rusnok of Immigration and Customs Enforcement. These agreements vary, with some authorizing enforcement of immigraiton law only in jails, while others expand those powers to the street. For the full story, click here.  The text of many of these 287(g) agreements is available through the internet, in light of a FOIA request filed by Yale law students.

Only 68,000? What a crock! For all the money we are investing in immigration enforcement, I will not be satisfied until the number of arrests (and, more importantly, removals) is 680,000. Now that would be a good start.
