Immigration Boosts Britain's Population

According to the Telegraph, immigration is a factor that fuels Great Britain's population:

The European Union's statistics office has projected a British population on the rise, growing from the current level of 61 million people to 77 million over the next 50 years.

As incoming migrants and rising birth rates multiply the number of Britons, Germany, currently Europe's most populous nation, is projected to decline from 82 million to 71 million people by 2060.

France will also overtake Germany to become the EU second-most populous country after Britain with 72 million residents, according to the forecast by Eurostat.

Figures from the Office for National Statistics, released last week, found that inward migration to Britain reached its highest level since the current method of counting was introduced, with 605,000 long-term immigrants arriving in the year to mid-2007.

The EU projections show that the wave of migration to Britain, boosting both the workforce and fertility rates, is out of step with many other European countries where deaths are expected to overtake births after 2015. Click here for the rest of the story.

I assume you're posting this because you think population growth is a good thing. Would you make a toast if the U.S. were to pass China in population?

A fundamental question unlimited immigration advocates ignore is 'How big should we be?' They often don't seem to grasp the concept that there even is a limit. In theory, 'the more the better' makes them feel good but the reality based community understands we already are depleting water beyond the rate it can replenish. Population growth makes it worse.

We're already facing an energy dependence issue. Population growth exasperates the problem.

The most important diversity is biodiversity. Population growth causes habitat loss.

How can we cap CO2 when our population is set to double every few decades? I don't consider paving over prime farmland to build more housing 'progress', do you? High immigration which causes population growth is an anti-progressive policy course for the U.S. I understand why those who advocate for unlimited immigration tend not to address such issues because they torpedo their argument. That doesn’t make their failure to do so any less irresponsible though.
