'We need stronger enforcement on the border and at the workplace'

'Obama will remove incentives to enter the country illegally by cracking down on employers who hire undocumented immigrants.'

BUT...

'Immigration raids are ineffective: Despite a sevenfold increase in recent years, immigration raids only netted 3,600 arrests in 2006 and have placed all the burdens of a broken system onto immigrant families.'

Is he saying he wants a permanent ban? If so, what exactly makes up your strong workplace enforcement and crack down then? Is electronic verification all he offers? That's great but you still need surprise inspections for those hirers who bypass the system completely and just go off the books. They need to know doing that is no guarantee they're home free. A no inspections policy will embolden flagrant law breaking.

Actually, immigration raids at the workplace have been very effective. All across the country, employers are closely scrutinizing work documents more closely and refusing to hire people without valid documentation. Employers are re-evaluating their policies on keeping on illegal aliens and in many cases letting them go. ICE need not raid every workplace that has hired illegal aliens, as those which are hit serve as examples for the rest. For every big company that is raided, a hundred CEO's become worried about their fate. It's only advocates for illegal immigrants who make the claims that raids don't work, just as they make claims that fences don't work, and that illegal aliens won't go home, but instead, go underground. They propagandize to discourage countermeasures against illegal immigration. The inconvenient truth is that all of these measures serve to deter illegal immigration. With states cooperating with the federal government, illegal immigration will soon be a thing of the past.

Contrary to Obama's statement, it's not what pulls people to America that drives illegal immigration, but what pushes people to America that poses the problem. These people would not come if their homelands provided the basic needs for them. Look at Europe, for example, their citizens do not emigrate, because they are content with the socioeconomic conditions on their continent. It is futile for this country to act as the savior for all, as it is impossible to accommodate the numbers that would like to come. It's far more practical to solve the root causes of illegal immigration, the poor economic environment in the homelands of illegal immigrants.

South and Central Americas will continue to generate untold millions of poor, unskilled and illiterate who will only be encouraged by another amnesty. The only solution to our problem with illegal immigation to seal our borders from illicit crossers and institute strong workplace employer laws that will discourage them from coming. We should encourage socioeconomic change in South and Central America, but that's all we can do for their people.

I agree completely with Horace. People in Central America come to the U.S. to make a living, to save themselves, and survive. Some come for their families and for hope for their children. Is it fair to kick people out when all they want is to work? Immigrants run the country by doing jobs that others don't want to, by doing jobs that don't pay much. I'm not saying that the U.S. should let anyone who pleases come in and live here forever, but I do think that they should help since they are one of the power countries.

We should build a hign tech boat and immigrate peoples from Africa. They would work a lot cheaper and do all the work for Americans. This solution would solve poverty and humanitarian concerns in Africa.

Undocumented Aliens
It is the disadvantaged that we are talking about. Let's kick them when they are down, especially when they don't have the power to defend themselves. If 12 million undocumented aliens pay $3000 fine that comes to 36 billion dollars, but who cares. They are all terrorist. Let’s spend 2 billion dollars to create security guard jobs. We have already spent 6 trillion dollars on war against terrorists; let’s start a new war so that we can spend some more money. We must fight terrorists wherever they are and mark my words, all undocumented aliens are terrorist.
