Immigration Trivia from the Migration Policy Institute
Here is some immigration trivia from the Migration Policy Institute:
* As in 1990 and 2000, in 2006 California had the largest number of foreign born (9,902,067) of all states in the nation. North Dakota had the smallest foreign-born population (13,378) in 2006.
* Nearly 10 million foreign-born persons living in California accounted for 27 percent of all Californians and for 26 percent of the 37.5 million foreign-born persons living in the United States in 2006.
* In 13 states, including California, Texas, Illinois, and Rhode Island, the foreign born represented a higher share of the state’s population than the national average (12.5 percent) in 2006.
* Delaware, South Carolina, Nevada, Georgia, and Tennessee were the top five states with the fastest growing foreign-born populations between 2000 and 2006. Thirty-six states experienced higher than the national average (20.7 percent) growth in their foreign-born populations.
* Of all states, Hawaii was the only one that did not have an increase in the foreign-born population between 2000 and 2006. The number of Hawaii’s foreign born decreased from 212,229 in 2000 to 210,162 in 2006.
