Mental Health Legislation - 108th Congress
The Bazelon Center for Mental Health Law has an overview of the mental health legislative successes and failures in the 108th Congress. Some of the better news includes the enactment of grant programs for suicide prevention and criminal justice diversion, new mental health funding, and secured protections in renewal of the special education law. On the downside, congress failed to act on furthering mental health parity legislation, laws to prevent custody relinquishment, and various bills to assist a failing public mental health system.
