National Organic Standards Board Meets This Week

Natl_organic The National Organic Standards Board meets this week in Washington.  The Agenda is available on the National Organic Program website.

The meeting will take place on March 27 from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m.; March 28 from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.; and March 29 from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Washington Plaza Hotel, 10 Thomas Circle, NW.  Requests to make an oral presentation at the meeting may be sent to Valerie Frances at valerie.frances@usda.gov , by fax at (202) 205-7808 or by phone at (202) 720-3252.

At this meeting, the NOSB will begin the sunset review process for 13 materials. There are eight substances for use in crops and handling placed on the National List in 2003 and scheduled to expire on Nov. 3, 2008. There are five substances for use in handling scheduled to expire on Nov. 4, 2008. The sunset review process must be concluded no later than Nov. 3 and 4, 2008, respectively. If renewal is not concluded by those dates, the use or prohibition of these 13 materials will no longer be in compliance with the National Organic Program.
