Newdow Challenges to Pledge and Motto to Be Heard by Ninth Circuit This Week
How Appealing provides a useful collection of information about this week's Ninth Circuit arguments in which the Court will consider Michael Newdow's Establishment Clause challenges to the Pledge of Allegiance and to the use of "In God We Trust" as the national motto and on US currency. The How Appealing post provides links to local media coverage of the Pledge case as well as to the District Court ruling now on appeal, the Ninth CIrcuit's earlier ruling on the Pledge, and pleadings from this second round of Pledge litigation. The District Court Pledge opinion to be examined by the Ninth Circuit Tuesday drew criticism for its determination that the Ninth Circuit's prior Establishment Clause ruling violation remained controlling in the renewed Pledge challenge despite the Supreme Court's reversal of the Ninth CIrcuit's decision that Dr. Newdow had standing to challenge the Pledge in his prior suit.
