International Recognition of Same Sex Unions

Mexico:

Mexico City's assembly on Thursday voted for the first time in the country's history to legally recognize gay civil unions, a measure that will provide same-sex couples with benefits similar to those of married couples. South Africa:

A parliamentary committee approved proposals for same-sex marriages in South Africa on Thursday, clearing the way for the passage of legislation that would be unique on a deeply conservative continent.  Read the New York Times article (last visited Nov 9, 2006 bgf)
