South Dakota Lawmakers Endorse Amendment to State Constitution Prohibiting Abortions
The South Dakota Senate State Affairs Committee unanimously endorsed a proposed constitutional amendment that would make it clear that South Dakota’s Constitution does not grant a right to an abortion. If approved by the state legislature, the amendment would be put to a public vote in the November election. If the provision becomes a part of the State Constitution, and the U.S. Supreme Court overturned Roe v. Wade, it is believed that no South Dakota court could find any right to abortion in the state constitution. Source: AP, AberdeenNews.com.
