Global Predictions for Alzheimer's

The World Alzheimer's Report 2013 Journey of Caregiving: An Analysis of Long-Term Care for Dementia, released a few days ago has some useful statistics projecting the increase in the number of individuals with Alzheimer's disease. The foreword notes the rising number of cases, with 70 million individuals projected to be diagnosed with it in 2030 and 115 million by 2050. The report has several pages of "key messages" and 4 "domains" for recommendations, calling upon all countries to make dementia research and care a priority. The recommendations are found on  pages 10-11 of the report. There's good information in the report and it helps give us a global picture of Alzheimer's disease by country.  The section on caregiving and long-term care (pages 30-41) in particular is interesting in light of our earlier blog about the "caregiver support ratio" and family caregivers.
