New AARP fact sheet discusses the importance of Social Security for women

Social Security benefits are vital to women’s retirement security.  More than a quarter of women aged 65 and older rely on Social Security for nearly all of their family income. Social Security kept roughly 38 percent of older women out of poverty, yet they are still more likely to be in poverty than older men.

This fact sheet, from AARP Pulbic Policy Institute,  describes how women benefit from the Social Security program and illustrates the importance of the program to women’s retirement security.
