Supreme Court Declines to Delay California Prisoner Release Plan
ScotusBlog has the update here. The Court noted that, under the three-judge district court's order, the Supreme Court would have the opportunity to review the district court's decree before implementation. In other words, the Court declined to stay the requirement that California officials draft a plan but is noting that it will have an opportunity to weigh in at a later stage. The prior CrimProf post is here. State officials have been ordered to prepare a plan to release 46,000 prisoners from state prisons over the next two years to relieve overcrowding.September 12, 2009 | Permalink
